The Valley

Web design in Wasilla

The Valley is the fastest-growing part of Alaska and it does not think of itself as suburban Anchorage. If your website is built as though everyone drives into town, you are invisible to the people who do not.

We are not based in the Valley. We serve it, and we would rather say that plainly than put a fake Wasilla address on a page.

The Valley searches for itself

Wasilla is in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, not the Municipality of Anchorage. Different borough, different government, and much more to the point, a different search habit. Somebody in Wasilla looking for a contractor types "wasilla." They do not type "anchorage" and they are not especially interested in driving in.

So an Anchorage-only website is not competing badly for Valley traffic. It is not competing at all. If you serve out here, the word Wasilla has to appear on a page that is actually about serving Wasilla, and your Business Profile service area has to say so.

It is growing faster than anywhere else in the state

The Mat-Su Borough is the fastest-growing subdivision in Alaska. It held 107,081 residents at the 2020 census, up 20.3% over the previous decade, and Wasilla is its largest incorporated community (source).

That matters commercially in a specific way. Growth means a constant supply of households with no local relationships yet, who choose every trade and service by searching. In an established market you are fighting for somebody else's customer. Out here a share of the market is arriving new every year, and search is how they pick.

Built for trucks and bad signal

Most of the traffic to a Valley trade business is somebody on a phone, often on a connection that is nothing like office wifi. A site that takes six seconds on the Parks Highway does not get read, whatever it looks like on your laptop.

We build static sites for exactly this reason and measure them against the published Core Web Vitals thresholds rather than a score out of a hundred. The other half is a phone number that is tappable and a form short enough to fill out one-handed. Unglamorous, and it is most of the difference between a site that books work and one that just exists.

Common questions

Wasilla, answered

Do I need a separate page for Wasilla if I already rank in Anchorage?

If you genuinely serve out here, yes. Search engines match a query to a page, so a search for "wasilla" needs a page that is about serving Wasilla. Ranking in Anchorage does almost nothing for a Valley search.

Are you based in Wasilla?

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Our office is in Anchorage and we serve the Valley from there. A fake local address is the sort of thing that gets a Google Business Profile suspended, so be careful with anyone offering you one.

Is it easier to rank in Wasilla than Anchorage?

Usually, yes. Fewer competitors and thinner competition mean the basics go further. That gap will close as the Valley keeps growing, which is an argument for doing it now rather than in two years.

Do you cover Big Lake, Houston and Meadow Lakes?

Yes. Whether each deserves its own page depends on how much of your work actually comes from there. Real pages for two areas beat thin pages for six, and we will tell you which two.

Can you work with us without meeting in person?

Easily. Most of our projects run entirely over calls and email regardless of where the client is, so being an hour up the highway changes nothing about how the build works.

Working out of the Valley?

Tell us where your customers actually come from. We will tell you whether your site is set up to catch them.
